About Karen Lankford and Box to Beautiful
“The day when you stop building your environment, when you stop building your own surroundings, when you stop waving a magic wand and gracing everything around you with magic and beauty, things cease to be magical, things cease to be beautiful.” – Unknown
I’m Karen Lankford and I am an interior designer based in Santa Fe, NM and Box to Beautiful is my dream of bringing Interior Design Confidence to anyone looking to roll up their sleeves and create a magical space.
WHY “BOX TO BEAUTIFUL”?
Beautiful design is for everyone – not just the wealthy or lottery winners. I knew that I wanted to work for people that were like me, my neighbors, my friends. (None of which are millionaires or lottery winners.) I knew there was a way to make interior design services affordable, fun and easily available. So, Box to Beautiful was born. I decided I wanted to create a community full of resources for making beautiful interior design accessible to everyone.
I knew that the people I most wanted to serve work on their homes (like I do) one small piece at a time. They work on it when they find the time and a little bit of extra money in their budget. It doesn’t happen overnight. They pick up an end-table one weekend, paint the hallway some month down the road, and rearrange furniture right before company comes. The other thing I heard was: ‘Karen, I wish you were with me when I was at (my favorite decor store). I was so nervous about getting this great (piece of furniture). I didn’t know if it would go with everything or fit into the space’.
So, I’ve put together a services collection of Interior Elements and Complete Rooms to help solve just that dilemma. Whether you get the Color Plan or a Room Remodel, I’m putting an interior designer in your pocket.
It’s my goal to give you the confidence to shop, paint, re-arrange and accessorize.
Together we create magic & beauty in your space. Together we transform spaces into experiences.
HOW I ARRIVED HERE:
After earning a degree in Mass Communications and Advertising, I worked in sales and marketing for the hotel & tourism industry. However, I still craved being able to make my passion for creativity a part of my career and everyday life.
I returned to school and in 2009 earned a B.S. in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Since, then I have been able to bring my creative energy and passion to numerous residential and hospitality projects.
In 2012, I passed the rigorous 2-day national exam for interior designers administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ). I am a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and have served in various positions, including Chapter President, for the New Mexico Chapter. I am also an adjunct professor with the Santa Fe Community College; teaching online and in the classroom for both the Art and Interior Design Departments.
